Among the so-called BRICs, (Brazil, India, Russian and China), I find Brazil the most interesting from an investor’s viewpoint. The economy is growing rapidly, there are huge offshore oil reserves, the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games will be held there, and there is a growing middle class. The World Cup and Olympic games are spurring huge construction projects: one beneficiary of the spending will be Gerdau, a global construction firm headquartered in Brazil.
Today’s Rio Times includes an article heralding the opening of a Land Rover Plant in Brazil. The Land Rover is the most iconic of SUVs and possibly the most expensive.
Other attractive Brazilian stocks include Cosan (CZZ) sugar-based ethanol producer and distributor, SBS a provider of water and sewer services in San Paulo, and CPL – the large electric company serving most of Brazil, Brazil Foods is also doing well.
There will be a lot to celebrate during Carnival this year!
