We were on a ferry from Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands, on our way to Vancouver Island when I saw this lady on the deck, enjoying the breeze. She was looking into the sun: the squint brought out the great character lines on her face, but made her eyes difficult to see. So, there are these trade-offs to stealth portrait photography. I used the grayscale mixer in Photoshop for the conversion to black and white and did a bit of dodging around the eyes.
