In recent years a large number of food trailers have opened for business mainly in South and East Austin. At first they may have been a way for entrepreneurs to get a start in the restaurant business but many of the better ones are taking on the look of being firmly established. These trailers have tended to form clusters so that you can sample your way through the neighborhood, getting crepes at one, tacos at another, then soup and salad, doing this can be a real culinary adventure.
This image is of a crepe restaurant on South Congress.

Seems so lovely, I wanted to have a lunch there… 🙂 Nice photograph, colourful. Thank you, dear Richard, have a nice day, with my love, nia
The image has a lot of my favorite color which is the reddest red imaginable.
Portland has been doing the food cart thing in earnest now for several years. At first, they occupied a few of the vacant downtown lots. Several years later, they started the clustering amongst the trendier ‘foodie’ enclaves in Portland. And, like you said, you can do the sampling venture amongst the carts or just sit and take in good people watching. They have become so established in some neighborhoods that overhead structures and more stable seating have been constructed. The only negative I have read from some is established restaurants complain that the food cart owner does not have to abide by the same licensing/taxes as they do. Not sure if any of that is true. You have heard of Pub Crawls, I’m sure. My wife and girlfriends are doing a Food Cart Crawl of sorts with warmer weather…moving from one cart island to another.
