Unsurprisingly the conceited one-term president was the first to announce his candidacy for the Republican presidential candidate. One wonders whether he really intends to run or whether he is merely fundraising from his base and plans on keeping the money to help pay his debts to the Russians.
Nikki Haley has joined the fray. Unlike Trump she might have read and understands the Constitution which Trump violated when he tried to overturn the election results. It is one of my disappointments that the once great Republican party is so worried about angering Trump’s base that they failed to impeach him when they had the chance. However, the party of Lincoln has become the racist fascist party of today.
I was particularly telling that the party had no platform for the last election. The party has coalesced around two issues: lower taxes for the wealthy and no abortions regardless of the danger to women. Effective leaders offer a vision. The Republicans have no vision and consistently show their inability to lead.
On the other hand, the Democrats will enjoy Trump’s candidacy since no one gets the Democratic vote out better than Donald Trump. When he loses, Trump will again claim a steal which is okay if he goes away quietly.
